Winkworth -SHARKS & SUSHI

Our Week in the Forest
What a SHARKtastic day we had in the forest one day this week. Our Little Forest Folk-ers had such a surprise when they entered the forest to see a great big shark waiting to be fed. They used the different coloured bean bags and showed good aim as they threw them into his mouth. They also enjoyed making ‘natural sushi’ using leaves rolled up with catkins inside and also their own sushi to enjoy as a snack. They helped to chop the cucumber, before flattening the rice on the sheet of seaweed and then rolling it all together. It was delicious.

We have also been looking at different stories, The Three Little Pigs, Handa’s Surprise and Sharing a Shell.

The Three Little Pigs saw our Little Forest Folk-ers exploring the three different materials that built the houses. PremBRICK manor had them using sponges to add the brick pattern onto the outside, this was so much fun that they went on to cover the whole house in brick work. There was also STRAWberry farm where they got to add lots of bracken stems to help it look like straw and then the last house, FantaSTICK Flat 6, had lots of branches and sticks around it. They had great fun with some different masks to role play the story.

When we explored Handa’s Surprise, our little adventurers got to get their hands dirty, using clay to make mud huts as well as junk modelling houses. The mud kitchen became a fruit shop where they were able to sell fruits using the till, as well as use scales to work out the cost.

Lastly, we explored the book Sharing a Shell. Here we rode on the interactive SHELLtle bus. Everyone was taking turns to become the driver as well as the passengers being picked up, just like the book. There was also an interactive sea life tray where there were lots of different items for our little ones to explore and see if they could turn them into a shell for the creatures. There were some fantastic still life pictures of shells being drawn too!

Another fab week! We hope you all have a great weekend as well!
