The sunshine continues at Little Forest Folk Chiswick! This week we have been welcoming holiday campers to join our forest fun. It has been such a joy to see them thrive outdoors and learn new forest skills. Our regular explorers have been so helpful in teaching them the rules and introducing them to all the adventures in our camp. A big thanks to everyone!
Here are a few highlights from our week:
Adventure walks
On our adventure walks this week, we have been observing the new blooming flowers and learning about their best friends - the bees. We are practicing recognising the different types living in our forest, which can be a little tricky when they are all dressed in black and yellow stripes!
Making elder necklaces
We have lots of elder trees growing in our forest, and our little explorers have been turning these into beautiful elder necklaces. Using our forest school tools, the children chopped the cut-off branches into smaller pieces and drilled out the soft wood in the middle, to turn them into elder pearls. With steady hand movements, they managed to thread the pearls into their own elder necklace.
Slack line
After lots of fun on our swing for the past weeks, we have decided to bring our beloved slack line back into our physical area in the forest. The children have been so brave and impressed all of us with their great balancing skills. Some can even walk it backwards!
Nature bookmarks
With lots of natural treasures found in the forest, specifically fallen flowers, we decided to make bookmarks. With sticky transparent tape the children attached their findings and turned them into their own personal bookmarks to bring back home for their favourite books.
Learning about the seasons
To continue supporting the children with their scissors skills, we have been cutting leaves in different colours. This also provided a perfect opportunity for us to learn about tree life cycles throughout the different seasons. Our little explorers keep improving their scissors skills, and it is lovely to observe them grow and get more confident each day.
What a fabulous week we’ve had, we hope everyone has a great weekend!
