What a joyful and imaginative week we’ve had in the forest! We were thrilled to welcome parents and grandparents to join in our adventures. The children absolutely loved sharing their forest world with you. Thank you for being a part of it!
We kicked off the week with imaginative play in the mud kitchen, collecting long seed pods to cook up delicious “spaghetti” dishes. Some were a little too hot at first, but with lots of mixing and blowing, we managed to cool them down just in time to gobble them up!
The creativity continued with sandcastle building, pouring and scooping in the sand box and crafting with clay. Some of the children carefully rolled and shaped their clay into animals, zebras, snails and even penguins! Continuing with our nature theme, we explored colour and texture by making leaf prints using paint, sponges and forest treasures on recycled cardboard cut-outs. The children enjoyed comparing the different shapes and patterns and chatting about the types of leaves they found.
Later in the week, we built on last week’s theme of patterns by creating beautiful jewellery using pipe cleaners and colourful beads. As the children threaded each bead, they talked about repeating patterns and practised their counting whilst engaging in hands-on ways to support fine motor skills and early maths skills.
One of the most exciting moments came when the children formed their very own forest band! They sang our forest rules song and transformed into a lively orchestra, using pots, pans, logs and sticks as instruments. They explored rhythm, volume and musical creativity and even composed an original tune.
What a fab week, we hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
