Chiswick - Mathematics in Nature!

It has been a wonderful week in Chiswick! Here you can read a little about what fun we have all had this week in the forest…

Circus

At the moment, a circus is set up close to our camp in the forest, and all of our little explorers find it very exciting. One day this week we therefore decided to make our own circus in camp and role played all the characters that came with it. The bossy circus lady said that everyone had to enjoy the performance silently. Ballerinas were dancing and popcorn was served in the mud kitchen. We also set up a stall game were the children had to hit bottles off a log with a ball.

A Hospital in the Forest

The children have been so imaginative this week, with lots of fun games going on. This week our camp suddenly turned into a big hospital full of doctors, nurses and patients! Everyone was busy helping out, even the hospital chef who cooked healing soups and sandwiches in the hospital kitchen!

Morse code

This week we discovered that the Gruffalo had been sneaking into our camp and had stolen our cookies! He left a note behind with a difficult morse code for us to decipher, which lead to the cookie’s hiding place. Luckily the children worked together brilliantly to crack the code and the cookies were found hidden in a bush and everyone was so happy to have solved the mystery!

Mathematics in Nature

We have practiced our counting this week, using our counting board made out of sticks from camp. The children had to match the right number with the right amount of things. Everyone worked really hard to finish the board - well done friends!

European Football Championship

Last Friday the Euros started, and it has been a theme through several of our activities this week. We brought our Europe map to the forest and learned about all the different countries. We have also been painting the different flags, and most importantly we have played football! Many of our educators and little explorers have family from European countries, so it has been lovely to use the Euros as an opportunity to share stories from home.

Sun printing

Because of all the lovely sunshine we have had this week, we sat down together and made a beautiful sun print of leaves we found around the forest. The children watched carefully as the print started to take colour in the sun and were so excited to see the lovely blue colour appearing.

Thank you for a lovely week everyone. We are already looking forward to the next one!
