Our Week in the Forest...
This week the sun has shone and the temperature has risen, could this be the arrival of summer? We are so lucky to have such fantastic trees on our site providing us with an abundance of much needed shade. Now that the trees are less slippery there has been much climbing, balancing and swinging, demonstrating how amazing our children’s physical development has become. Their problem solving skills are developing immensely as they work out where best to put their hands and feet, making them more confident in scaling more challenging trees.
The children have also enjoyed some group games this week with 40/40 being a favourite. They have enjoyed the competition of trying to catch or not being caught by their friends. It has been a real pleasure to see the children encouraging each other to climb, balance or run faster.
Imagination has been a theme for the week with children creating sophisticated role play and make believe worlds. The mud kitchen has continued to be popular and with the addition of a tea pot we were treated to an afternoon of mud tea, mud cakes and mud ice-cream.
The children are getting more proficient at tying knots and used their knot and rope skills to build a boat for an adventure to a treasure island where they encountered pirates and a menacing dragon. The boat held up against the powerful waves, howling wind and they finally managed to escape with the treasure!!
With the sun out we have taken the opportunity to do also some painting in the forest. The children used their creativity to mix paints and paint sticks, logs and stones. Some children used the sticks and stones to create miniature parks with swings, slides, stages for singing and acting on, benches for grown-ups and an amazing ‘jumpy thing’.
Food in the forest:
As we head into June next week we'll have some menu changes - look out for our menu update which will be sent out in the next few days.
Our full May menu can be found on our website HERE
One of our tasty new lunch items from next week:
Petit pois, mint pesto and mozzarella wrap
We blitz Petit Pois with garlic, mint, lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil, mozzarella and cheddar. The pesto is spread onto wraps (with some extra cheese) and toasted.
The children will enjoy these in the forest with cucumber slices and carrot batons.
Have a wonderful long weekend!
