Here at Little Forest Folk Morden, we’ve been celebrating the first week of February by noticing the signs of spring popping up! We do love our muddy forest, but it’s a wonderful celebration for everyone to see the first pops of colour in our space!
One of the cool activities we’ve enjoyed this week has been led by our fabulous educator Kitz - the children helped to make some lovely paper flowers with vibrant coloured inks and shapes, and used their fine motor skills to fold them into a closed bud shape. In a small group, our Little Forest Folk-ers gently laid the flowers in the water tray to watch them unfold and float! It was a very special activity and great to see how gentle the children were!
We’ve been adding colour to our space with ideas from the children and asking what they would like to see most in the forest space. Our Deputy Manager Su created a lovely new cozy reading area for our friends to take some time and cuddle up with a good book and to talk about our play ideas. Our little adventurers have also been vamping up our veggie garden space with some colourfully decorated bricks to make paths and flower beds, ready for our early spring planting!
Finally, our favourite play this week was opening our flower market! The children used so much vibrant language in their role play, wrapping the flowers in paper and bringing them to their friends! The children then brought flowers to the mud kitchen and got so creative with their play! It was a real treat to see, and we are so excited to see more spring based activities in the coming weeks!
