Chiswick - Science Experiments and Diwali Celebrations

Our Week in the Forest

There were lots of fun and exciting activities in the forest this week, the children filled their time with plenty of things to see, do and learn!. They explored nature, used their senses to discover new things and took part in hands-on experiences that sparked their curiosity and creativity.

Our Little Forest Folk-ers took part in a fun science experiment where they created red lava using baking soda, paint and lemon juice. They were excited to find out how the experiment would go. Using pippets and spatulas they carefully mixed the ingredients together, watching closely as the reaction began. As the red fizzy lava started to flow, the children were amazed and watched in awe at their magical creation!

Our little adventurers celebrated Diwali by making small candles out of clay. They shaped the clay and decorated them with colourful leaves that they picked from the forest floor. They also made a beautiful Rangoli using different shapes which they had cut out from paper. Throughout the activity, they learnt about the colours and lights that are part of this celebration.

The mud kitchen was a very busy place to be this week, as the rainy weather blessed us with a stockpile of our favourite ingredient - water! Our little explorers were busy collecting water in pots and making ‘delicious’ conker and pinecone soups, following the ‘instructions’ from the recipe book. They then served all the fantastic food for the educators who were comfortable waiting in the imaginary coffee shop.

The pumpkin carving activity was very popular too. The children worked together in small groups to explore the pumpkin’s different parts like skin, pulp and seeds as they carved them. It was wonderful to see how their ideas and designs came to life as the funny and scary faces appeared on the pumpkins.

Another wonderful week, we wish you all a restful weekend!
