Our week in the forest!
We have had a lovely, crispy, wintery, autumnal, sunshine week immersed in literature and language, reading stories as well as making up our own stories and writing them down.
Every December at Little Forest Folk Twickenham we have an Advent Calendar of Christmas and winter stories. Each day we have 2-3 seasonal stories which spark our imaginations. Check out the following stories from your library or local bookshop/charity shops. “Dinosaur Christmas” by Penny Dale, “We’re Going on an Elf Chase” by Martha Mumford, “Dear Santa” by Rod Campbell, “Squirrel’s Snowman” By Julia Donaldson, “The Grumpy Reindeer” published by Dorling Kindersley, “Five Little Penguins” by Lily Murray, “A House For Christmas Mouse” by Rebecca Harry and “Green is for Christmas” by Drew Daywalt.
We have painted toilet rolls green, creating cylindrical Christmas trees, we have practised writing our initials in flour one day, with pens on paper another day and after a spell of rain we used sticks to write in the mud.
We welcomed our old friend Ruby the Elf back into the forest again too. She comes every day throughout the month of December and hides in various places such as up a tree, in the toilet tent window, in the bushes, under the tarpaulin etc and our Little Forest Folk-ers thoroughly enjoy searching for her and calling out her name. She zooms back to the North Pole each night to have hot chocolate with Santa and the other elves before returning to hide again in our forest. We are always very excited to see her each year.
Our problem solving mechanics were deeply engrossed in disassembling bright, yellow, construction trucks and then reassembling them. Small screwdrivers and spanners were needed to help loosen screws, nuts and bolts. The focus and dedication to the task was commendable as our little explorers persevered with their tasks even when it was a little challenging.
Thanks for coming to the forest, have a fab weekend!
