Wandsworth - Paradise Cooperative Community Gardens, Our New Home!

The week began with an exciting new adventure in our brand-new outdoor location at Paradise Cooperative Community Garden. Spread over an acre, the site is rich in a variety of unique spaces that can be used for different activities. Amongst the new scenery we are particularly looking forward to making dough and using the pizza oven, investigating the flora and fauna of the pond, and beekeeper talks.

With the return of a highly experienced educator called Marlon, who is currently supporting all the nursery sites, many children had a great experience practicing using the bowsaw and hand drill. Here, children listened well to safety routines which are there to protect each other and make the activity simple and fun. First, thin “cookies” were sawn from the end of some elm branches. Next, a drill was used to create two small holes in the discs which they then persevered at threading wool or string through to create necklaces, medals and bracelets.

In the forest, children have enjoyed felt Easter egg hunts around the site, with a wonderfully fair rule announced by one child of “only find one Easter egg each so we can all have one”! Crafting has been a flurry of fabric and tissue paper, with scissor snipping and glue galore combining to make some rather marvellous egg and flower decorations too.

We hope you all enjoy a well-deserved relaxing long Easter Weekend.
