We began this week by continuing our trips, with the highlights being the Library and the Natural History Museum. At the library the adventurers enjoyed exploring all the books around them and learning about celebrations that happen across the world. At the museum it was very exciting exploring the creepy crawly room and growing our knowledge of the world around us. It has been so wonderful getting the chance to explore new areas and have different experiences with our little ones.

Back in the forest there have also been some incredible adventures. With the frozen space around us there has been plenty of exploring the ice and watching how it changes over time. Each morning on the walk-in it has been so fascinating looking out for what we have seen the day before and if the space around us looks different. One group of children have been watching a puddle on site each day and noticing that each morning there is new frost but throughout the day this melts.

Later in the week we went and explored the pond. While there were no animals there, there was plenty of algae and reeds to investigate. There was also a great opportunity to mathematically experiment, using a long stick we measured the depth of the pond at different points and discussed how the pond was deeper in the middle. The forest continues to provide amazing learning opportunities for our little ones.

As always role play is a favourite among the foxes and bunnies. This week there have been roaring dinosaurs, sleepy monkeys, and hungry bears. Some children set up a restaurant complete with a full menu, there were even delicious mud pies and chocolate cakes. The Little Forest Folk-ers took turns to cook, serve and eat, ensuring they each got a turn at each. What a great way to spend a day in the forest.
