Chiswick - Fairies and wizards!

Wizards in the forest love a face paint :-)

Wizards in the forest love a face paint :-)

We brought a wizard’s hat into the forest this week. Role playing with the hat on was the children’s most popular activity of the week.  When the children put the wizard’s hat on, they would pick up a stick and miraculously turn into witches!

A witch.. this stick.. a frog

The sticks were used as broomsticks and magic wands.

We had a cauldron in the forest all week. We provided different materials for the children to mix up special potions. We had sensory materials like spices which the children liked to have a sniff of before adding it into their mixture.

We found our own resources from the forest to also add to our potions. By the time we had mixed all of our potion ingredients together, we were left with a solution that turned us all in to different animals.

We made wands using sticks and decorated them using pipe cleaners and string. The children came up with the idea of taking different pieces of sticks and tying them together using the string.  Our wands soon became fishing rods, which we used for fishing for sharks!

Bubbles are always a good idea. We used our homemade bubble mixture and our homemade blower to make bubbles. The children like to catch and pop bubbles. We had a competition of who could pop the most.

We provided the children with books about Wizards and Fairies. The books about the pirates seemed to be the ones which the children preferred as they were the ones the children kept asking to be read to them.

We listened to songs from the Wizard of Oz and had a boogy to them in the forest. We skipped to the song ‘Follow the Yellow Brick Road’ and pretended we were skipping down a yellow brick road.

The children very bravely used hammers this week. They took nails and banged them into logs using their hammers. After talking about safety when handling tools, the children were able to use them independently. This activity helps children improve their co-ordination, gross motor and fine motor skills.

As the children LOVE having their faces fainted. We thought we’d let them paint their own faces this week. The children used the mirror to see their faces and used a brush with some face paints to paint their face.

I’m a princess.
I’m a dragon.
I’m a fairy.

Next Week in the Forest

Next week our topic will be Jack and the Beanstalk.  We will be exploring different types of seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, poppy etc.). The children will make their very own bean stalks and giants. We also have a very exciting magic bean game planned.
