Fulham - Five Fun Packed Days!

Hello everyone,

What a strange week it has been! After a few tantalisingly sunny days last week, the weather has gone very cold again. It is beginning to feel like a never-ending winter and our children’s resilience and endurance are certainly being put to the test. Thankfully spirits have been high this week as we celebrate five fun-packed days of ‘Stay and Play.’ It is always such a pleasure to welcome parents onto site to see what their children get up to, talk with the team and get a general flavour of the activities and routines of the forest. We are lucky to have such a supportive and engaged group of parents which really makes a difference to what we do at Little Forest Folk Fulham.

This week we have focused a lot of our activities around the wooden pallets, planks and other large natural objects. We have been keen to create interesting spaces that allow for conversation, imagination and getting physical, climbing, jumping, hopping, and balancing.

On Monday we had an obstacle course set out with wooden benches, logs, cones and planks to keep our Little Forest Folk-ers moving. Exploring fine motor skills, we set out a table with pom-poms, sequins, and smaller items to use for decorating junk modelling.

On Tuesday we prepared for the coronation by constructing a castle and a dais that the children enjoyed climbing on. After decorating a perfectly-shaped cardboard box, they placed their ‘throne’ on the dais and gave everyone their best royal wave!

Wednesday we built a fire station with uniforms, a hose, buckets and a rope. The children loved acting out their fire-fighting skills and climbing over the pallet station during emergencies!

On Thursday we extended the site and had a great time climbing in the yew tree. Forest nurseries have many benefits, but it is certainly noticeable how little one’s physical development excels when given such wonderful opportunities to test their own abilities and embrace the natural environment. Thanks to all those parents who provided helping-hands during this lovely experience.

Once again thank you to all the parents who joined us this week and we look forward to the next ‘Stay and Play’ session.

Have a lovely long weekend!

See you all next week!
