Morden - Exploring All Areas of the Forest!

It was a chilly and wet week in the forest! We had a mix of outside activities and an occasional few indoors as well to warm up before venturing back out to explore!

We have taken advantage of all areas within the forest this week! We have a back garden, the jungle path, front garden and area next to the carpark with the 'big swing.' Every explorer has adventured into each of these areas this week whilst keeping busy and moving to stay warm! We have enjoyed taking the children to the 'big swing' where we can hear cheering 'Higher, higher!' Or counting the times they have swung up and down! This was a great activity for physical development and learning to share and take turns! So many Little Forest Folk-ers were cheering on their friends and waiting patiently to be next!

We have had mark making stations set up indoors and outside where learners have been using multiple materials and resources to create marks, such as chalk, paints, pencils and crayons! Maria even had bumble bee dot to dot boards with pens! Learners could follow the dots to help the bumble bee reach the flower! Some were straight lines, zig zags and loop de loops! Great practice for letter formations and pencil grips!

We also added some new rainbow windmills around the forest. This caught the learners’ eyes, who watched in awe as the pinwheels spun with a gust of wind! 'It's so windy it’s spinning really fast!' Many have been counting how many they can find within the forest! This sparked interesting conversations as some are stuck within flower beds. 'Will these grow really tall like the trees?' It also inspired some to create their own windmills which they stapled and designed themselves!

Of course, we always fill our days with songs and stories too & we were lucky enough to receive some new books which have been favourites this week. We have many, many children who love dinosaurs! We’ve been learning new names 'Brachiosaurus!' 'What's a carnivore?'

I think our favourite song this week has been the 'Boundary song!' This is a song about communicating our boundaries and personal space which is really helpful for our adventurers as they learn to use words to express themselves amongst their peers!

Have a great weekend and see you next week!
