Morden - Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday Little Forest Folk Morden! The youngest member of our little family turned two! We are so glad to be a part of this philosophy and to promote Forest school values every day! Cheers to more adventures in Morden!

We are pleased to announce more incredible news that happened this week. We have adopted some chicken eggs! An incubator with 7 eggs set up in the scout hall and most of them have hatched! The children are so excited that they have even named the first baby chick 🐣 We feel so lucky to have the opportunity to see the whole process! This 10 day experience will encourage learners to understand the world and the lifecycle of animals! How to care and look after animals and their environments and habitats.

The few warmer and sunnier days encouraged learners to create and build a pond! We began by filling a tray with water, all the Little Forest Folk-ers helped each other by transferring water to fill the large black tray. Once there was sufficient water, many began to fill and decorate with rocks, leaves and some sticks. This was a good demonstration, showing which materials can sink and float. ‘We need this to float so the bees can sit on top.’ Ronnie enhanced this by using tubes to transfer water and gather some resources and helpers to ‘block’ any leaks! Some even built a ‘water fountain’ from resources found around the forest! We have been checking the pond since to find any signs of life. We have watched bees drinking and spotted a few spiders!

Vicky has kept the adventurers busy with arts and crafts this week! Bug and worm hunts are always popular and many had the opportunity to create ‘wiggly worms,’ ‘worm puppets!’ Using paper, crayons and pens to create ‘sad’ ‘happy’ ‘shocked’ faces onto their worms! We found natural materials and sticks, to use to hold and wiggle the worm! Vicky has created a board which all the learners can trace their hand print, cut and stick on, to create a feathered effect! Once we have all the white hands (feathers) we can keep the chicks warm on a gloomier days such as today! This will be a good resource to continue the conversation about our hatching chicks! What do chicks need to survive? What is the best environment for our chicks?

Have a good weekend all! We look forward to seeing you next week and watching our chicks grow!
