Wimbledon Village - Little Forest 'Peg People'!

We shifted our attention from shapes and patterns to all sorts of marks and prints this week as we set up lots of opportunities for mark-making of all descriptions. The children looked at a range of animal footprints in clay, flour and on paper and were on the lookout for horse, dog and magpie tracks on the paths into and out of camp. We used natural materials to make marks too, painting with leaves, printing with carved potatoes and rolling patterns into mud.

Wimbledon Village - Wonderful Wintery Start to 2025!

What a wonderfully Wintery way to start 2025, we are so happy to be back in the forest with our favourite crew! Frosty grass, crunchy mud, frozen puddles and a chill in the air have given us plenty of opportunities this week to see our landscape through a different lens, especially in the mornings.

This week our Little Forest Folk-ers have quite literally been into, on top of, under, around and among absolutely everything! While educators have been encouraging children to use their bodies in a multitude of ways, be it small and controlled actions to make marks or huge sweeping movements in action songs, we have seen perseverance, independence and resilience in abundance and we are very proud of the little ones for getting stuck in!

Wimbledon Village - See, Hear, Touch, Smell and Taste!

This week of sensory exploration was just what we all needed as we tried to make sense of the changing seasons. All week, our Little Forest Folk-ers have been activating and talking about their five senses, to broaden their understanding of the world around them, using their growing vocabulary to describe what they see, hear, touch, smell and taste.

Wimbledon Village - Puddles and helicopter story

After the heavens opened on us this week, we took the opportunity to jump in puddles! These puddles quickly became shark infested waters, and so the tables were turned with this activity, as we then did our best to avoid the puddles! Whilst our camp may have become dampened, our spirits certainly did not!
