We continued with our counting and listening skills this week, with gusto! The calendar work was postponed, as it was a little too tricky for a lot of children that were in, so educators continued to use our ‘days of the week’ approach to counting down days over the course of the week.

On Monday, the children explored what would float and what would sink using some items provided by the educators and more that were found around camp. The warm weather also gave our educators quality time to talk about why we need to be careful in the sun and why we need more water breaks built into our day - some of the children can even now be heard calling ‘water break’ before the adults! 

We kept the tweezers, scissors and paper punches from last week and progressed to using palm drills and secateurs under the guidance of educators. There were also lots of opportunities to use big gestures and work on balance and hand-eye coordination on innovative slackline, rope and swing configurations.

Circles, cycles and spheres went round and round on camp and in our conversations this week in all sorts of ways, as the children of Little Forest Folk Wimbledon Village explored different ball games, investigated the life cycle of frogs and monkeyed around on a tyre swing! 

At Little Forest Folk, we tend to count, calculate and consider numbers a lot as part of our everyday activities, whether it is working out if there are enough stepping stone logs for all the children on camp that day, or counting out the leaves on a leaflet from an elder tree.

It seems the children at Little Forest Folk Wimbledon Village are solar powered because when the sun came out they really started to power up!

The children have continued to investigate forces at work in their physical environment this week, with the aid of magnets of all shapes and sizes! They were challenged to extract colourful metal coins from amongst non-magnetic materials like rice and sand.

The world keeps turning and the days keep lengthening (hooray!), which prompted us this week to think about the world around us and the forces at work that can't always be seen
