Twickenham - A Fresh New Season!

Twickenham has delighted in the change of weather as the temperatures have dropped and the leaves have started to fall from the trees. We have had an immense amount of fun trying to catch a falling leaf before it touches the ground, it is a harder game than you might think. Understanding the world around us, we have learnt about slugs, snails and worms who can always be found after the rains. Armed with magnifying glasses, we have found some beautiful specimens.

Our favourite book of the week was “Handa’s Surprise” by Eileen Brown, and we learnt about Handa and all the cheeky animals who take her fruit as she walks to her friend’s house, we also learnt a little bit about Africa and especially Kenya where they say “Jambo” which means hello. We enjoyed eating all the fruits from Handa’s basket for our own snack time as we tried guava, passion fruit, and papaya as well as pineapple, mango, orange and banana.

We sat in small groups under the tree and tarpaulins and looked around, as we remembered and talked about all the animals we have in our British forest: squirrels, foxes, magpies, parakeets, worms, beetles, and spiders etc.

We also took all our small world animals out into the forest from our indoor space one day, and our Little Forest-Folk-ers sorted out the toys into animals that fly, animals that live on land and animals that swim. The older children helped the younger ones, and we created an area for ancient animals that roar…yes that's right the land of the dinosaurs! Leopards and children climbed high mountains, polar bears and children sat on icebergs at sea, pigs roamed about grunting and squealing around  the forest and pterodactyls and pelicans swooped and flew around the forest.

See you all again next week!
