This week has been full of inspiring and exciting play.
Early in the week, our older children had the opportunity to go for a big adventure walk to have a picnic for morning snack. We ventured off to the doggy meadow’s bench before pausing to fuel up before our trek. Once our bellies were full, we set off! At each crossroad, the children voted to decide which direction they would walk and from the decisions we made we saw a huge number of mushrooms! We pulled each other through the deep squelchy mud and climbed over fallen trees and branches. We walked so far that we found another river; crossing it carefully proved difficult with the current, but we persevered!
Our Little Forest Folk-ers are still obsessed with singing Christmas songs and are starting to learn new ones or making their own up! The dry weather has brought bundles of opportunities to use our musical instruments to make sound. Starting with familiar songs like ‘jingle bells’ and the ‘alphabet song’, we’ve introduced new words and tunes like ‘grizzly bear grump’ and learning the tunes to ‘incey wincey spider’ on the ukulele. We’ve even been heard making songs and chants about our hot lunches! The slow cooked beans are the favourite, so we made up a song to show our appreciation for them, we were able to stomp our feet to the rhythm too!
Finally, our role plays hit a new level of imagination when we walked past the den on the way to the forest and decided to stop and make a ‘fire’. We gathered sticks to put into place before ‘lighting’ it with our golf ball candle. It was quickly decided we needed a fire circle to keep everyone safe, whilst a few of our little explorers pushed back the leaves to show a distinct circle, others handed out fire gloves to help protect everyone’s hands. It was then decided that we would make hot chocolate with the ‘Kelly kettle’ stick, luckily we didn’t have to wait long for a cup! A great play where our children demonstrated their fire safety skills and knowledge.
It's been a great week, we hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
