Twickenham - “May the 4th be with you!”

It was just a four-day week but it was definitely packed with exciting celebrations and filled with fun learning!

We started our week by taking part in the Hedgehog Awareness Week organised by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society. Although we don’t see any hedgehogs in our forest site, we took this opportunity to get to know these little spiky creatures by reading non-fiction books about them, learning about their habitats and diet, and creating hedgehog themed crafts! Our eco school council also made sure that there are no hazards for the hedgehogs (and the rest of the wildlife, of course!) by doing litter picking. These are just small actions by our Little Forest Folk-ers but we are hoping that they will make a big difference in the lives of these nocturnal creatures.

Moving forward, this week would not pass without Little Forest Folk Twickenham celebrating Star Wars Day! As we headed into the forest on the 4th of May, we were welcomed by a full-on Star Wars themed set-up: we tried reaching for the ‘Death Star’ made out of a lantern that was hanging on a tree using a ‘lightsaber’ (boom whacker musical instrument), we did small world play while learning about the planets, we made our own R2D2 and BB8 using recycled boxes and cardboards, and our own stormtrooper and Darth Vader masks using paper plates! “May the 4th be with you!” was how we said goodbye to each other!

We joyfully ended our week by having a grand, royal celebration: making Coronation Quiche for Wild Cooking Friday, having a tea party, crafting our own crowns and UK flags, reading story books about King Charles, and posing for lots of ‘photo ops’ in our King and royal guard standee!

Thank you everyone for a fun-filled week! Have a great long Coronation weekend!
