We are building our emotional vocabulary at the moment by exploring our own emotions and how to express them but also discussing what others might be feeling and how we can be sensitive to that. Our soundtrack at the moment is ‘The Boundary Song’, which reminds us how to use kind and gentle, but clear, language to tell others what our boundaries are. Aside from the message in the song, it is also a great tune and has been requested many times by multiple children (and adults!).
Throughout the week we have also seen a variety of activities and games in the forest. Our Little Forest Folk-ers, as always, chose what they wanted to engage in and many invented their own games or played together in sometimes incredibly dramatic imaginary scenarios! On one afternoon, almost everyone decided to become a pack of “doggies”, as grown-ups carefully threw imaginary sticks for them to fetch. The children ran fast, jumped high, panted, barked and showed incredible commitment to their roles. It was a full body and brain workout for all involved! In contrast to the imaginary, we also had some tool work activities, where our little explorers listened carefully and observed before having a go at using the bow saw and palm drills. Their ability to switch from high energy to intense concentration impressed us all.
Everyone at Little Forest Folk Wimbledon Village is happy that the sun is coming back to us gradually and peeking out from behind the clouds now and then. We hope you get to spot it over the weekend, and we look forward to seeing all our little adventurers again next week!
